Product description
Technical Specification for Bare Copper Grounding Cable
Application
Stranded Class 2 bare copper wire, manufactured in accordance with EN 60228 / IEC 60228 standards, is a high-quality, non-insulated, and non-sheathed soft drawn copper conductor.
These conductors are ideally suited for use as neutral wires, circuit ground connections, and machinery or equipment grounding systems.
Additionally, the soft-drawn copper is excellent for use in transformer drop leads and non-tension connections such as hook-up jumpers.
Standards
Designed and manufactured in compliance with EN 60228 and IEC 60228 specifications to ensure consistency and reliability.
Features and Benefits
- High Conductivity: Copper provides nearly twice the conductivity of aluminum, ensuring optimal performance in grounding and neutral applications.
- Corrosion Resistance: Bare copper conductors are resistant to the types of corrosion commonly seen with aluminum, making them suitable for direct burial applications.
- Ease of Termination: Copper is more straightforward to splice, terminate, and join compared to aluminum, reducing installation time and effort.
- Durability: The soft or annealed construction enhances mechanical performance, ensuring longevity in grounding applications.
Construction
The bare copper conductor features a compressed concentric-lay-stranded construction, consisting of one or more layers of wires helically wound around a central wire.
- Layer Structure: Each successive layer has six more wires than the layer beneath, optimizing flexibility and strength.
- Class 2 Stranding: This configuration offers a balance between flexibility and mechanical strength.
- Direction of Lay: The outermost layer employs a left-hand lay, while successive layers in 7, 19, and 37 wire configurations alternate the direction of the lay to ensure structural integrity.
This design and specification make the bare copper conductor an ideal solution for demanding grounding and neutral applications in various electrical installations.
